Sustainability
Holders of one of the first organic licences in the UK
Doves Farm Food founders Clare & Michael were pioneers of the organic movement. Thus, the belief that we should endeavour to grow our ingredients in harmony with nature and consider the broader impact on the environment from our activities, is in our DNA.
Below you can read more about some of our sustainability initiatives, and some of the things we have already achieved or are doing to reduce our footprint on the planet.
Farming in harmony with nature
Organic farming is planet friendly farming. Our own 350 acre farm is organic and we work with many other dedicated and passionate organic farmers and producers across the UK and further afield for our ingredients. Today, around 57% of our SKUs are certified organic.
Building strong relationships
We believe in building long-term relationships and only sourcing from ethical and SEDEX-registered suppliers wherever possible. SEDEX is one of the world’s leading ethical trade membership organisations, working to improve working conditions in global supply chains. Read more about SEDEX here.
Investing in renewable energy
Currently, ca. 70% of the power we use is from renewable energy sources, and we are working towards 100%. As part of our ongoing investment in renewable energy, in 2023, we significantly increased the number of solar panels on site giving us an annual total output of around 220,000 kWh of clean energy, which we supply to the grid.
More sustainable packaging
We are proud to say that ca. 98% of our retail packaging by weight is recyclable. We are also members of OPRL and most of our packaging now carries information about their recyclability helping customers returning their packaging into the correct recycling stream.
Reducing Waste
Our teams work hard to ensure we re-use or re-cycle any waste material on site, and we do not send anything to landfill.
